About the museum
The Gemeentemuseum van Temse is on the Kasteelstraat and is run by the local authority of Temse. The museum tells the story of the town on the Scheldt and the Durme, with water as a common thread.
On the second floor, the permanent exhibition “Temse aan het Water” (“Temse by the Water”) tells, in six themes, how the rivers have shaped Temse: from prehistory to the present, with attention to trade, shipbuilding, textiles, basketmaking, clog-making and brickworks, and to the Scheldt as a border, with ferry services, a bridge and a fortress.
The first floor is set up for changing exhibitions on art, heritage and comics. That space can also be rented by associations, private individuals and businesses.
