About the museum

Around 1850, the Count of Wissekerke, Philippe Vilain XIIII, had a barn built to dry wijmen or willow twigs, one of the main products of the polder. Osier twigs were the raw material for basket-making, which flourished in this region. The barn was built in a more or less Swiss style, which the count had picked up during his travels through Europe.

At the end of the twentieth century the osier-drying barn was converted into a museum of agricultural items (landbouwalaam). The museum displays a collection of very diverse agricultural machinery and tools, including a potato digger, a beerkar, a calf machine, a butter churn and a carbide lamp.

In the museum's café, visitors can enjoy a drink at affordable prices. The surroundings, with the Wissekerke castle, the church and church square and the Barbierpolder, are ideal for walking and cycling trips.
