Temporarily closedAdmission €5 Partially accessible
Temporarily closed (expected until 2027). GlazenHuis is closed for renovations until autumn 2027. The glass shop and the guided tours are also closed until reopening.

About the museum

GlazenHuis opened in May 2007 on the initiative of the city of Lommel and Toerisme Lommel, with support from Toerisme Vlaanderen. The link with glass is obvious: in 1845 quartz sand was discovered in Lommel, the raw material on which the glass industry in the region was built.

The building stands in the centre of Lommel and connects the historic Huis Aerts, the reception of Toerisme Lommel and the cultural centre De Adelberg. It was designed by architect Philippe Samyn and partners: a glass box in white and grey, with a glass cone about 30 metres high. Inside it are three exhibition spaces and a spiral staircase. From the galleries you look into the glass studio, where glass artists, designers and students work almost daily.

GlazenHuis presents itself as the Flemish centre for contemporary glass art. It organises two exhibitions a year, often with international artists, and offers workshops and residencies. Together with the city, it has been building its own collection since 1998, which comprised more than 800 works in 2020. The house is closed for renovations until autumn 2027.
