About the museum
In the former town hall of Sint-Huibrechts-Lille, a sub-municipality of Pelt, the local history society set up two museums: a local history museum and an archaeological museum. The society, a vzw founded in 1973, researches the history of the village and wants to share it with a broad public.
The local history museum opened in 1984 in the attic of the former town hall, with objects donated by residents. You can see a fully furnished classroom from a convent school, a good room (parlour) from a farmhouse, an old kitchen and a collection of tools and agricultural implements.
The archaeological museum shows finds from a Roman settlement at the Kolisbos site, where excavations have been taking place since 1984. There are about 6,000 pottery sherds from the first to the third century, as well as two wells, a hearth chain, glass, coins and an enamelled fibula. The museum can only be visited by appointment.
