About the museum
The clock museum of Longueville is in the village of Longueville, in the municipality of Chaumont-Gistoux, in the centre of Belgium. It is run by the non-profit association “Les Amis du Musée d'Horlogerie de Longueville”, whose statutes were published in 2024 and whose president is Philippe Pater, a founding member.
The place grew out of a family story: father and son Pater have been designing original clocks and restoring pendulum clocks, wall clocks, regulators and watches from France, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands or England for more than fifty years. Their fine-mechanics workshop, equipped with old lathes and milling machines, keeps all the know-how needed to maintain, repair and build clock parts.
The collection illustrates clockmaking from the 18th century to today and the different styles of the great periods of horology, with clocks of the Louis XVI or Consulate period, cased by cabinetmakers, bronze workers, chasers and gilders. The visit includes the workshop and is always accompanied by a guide.
