About the museum
The Famenne & Art Museum, also known as the FAM, occupies the Maison Jadot in the historic heart of Marche-en-Famenne. It is in fact two houses that the Jadot family of notaries joined together in the 19th century. The older one was built shortly after the fire that devastated the town in 1615; fully renovated in 2018, it now houses contemporary, minimalist exhibition rooms. The second dates from 1776 and keeps its original atmosphere, with creaking floorboards, fireplaces of local marble and stucco work. The whole complex is listed and surrounded by a wooded park.
The visit offers three experiences. The first is the discovery of the building itself. The second, “Trésors de Famenne” (Treasures of Famenne), is an immersive, multi-sensory route through the human history of this natural region, which is often confused with the neighbouring Ardennes, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The third is devoted to Remy Van den Abeele: some forty works by this visual artist from Hainaut are shown in the setting of a collector's apartment, with a cabinet of curiosities that also displays jewellery, casts and sculptures.
The museum also organises temporary exhibitions, lectures and a flagship family event, the Archery FAM. According to the press, it received recognition from the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles until 2032 in 2026.
