About the museum

The Chasseurs Ardennais regiment was created in 1933; the association that perpetuates its memory, the Fraternelle royale, was founded in 1945. The museum was born around 1970 from the idea of a hall of honour within the 3rd Battalion, modelled on a tradition room seen among French Alpine chasseurs. It was officially inaugurated on 19 May 1972.

When the 3rd Battalion was disbanded in 1994, its collections were transferred to Marche-en-Famenne, to the 1st Battalion, which made a former canteen available. After eighteen months of work, the new museum opened to the public in December 1995; it was now to represent all the tradition units of the Chasseurs Ardennais. From 1998, a team of volunteers made the display cases that give it its present form.

The museum is located in the Roi Albert military camp. For property and investments, it depends on the Fraternelle; its custody and management are the responsibility of the regiment's commanding officer. A team of civilian and military guides accompanies visitors.
