About the museum
The museum is housed in the birthplace of the poet, writer and composer René De Clercq in Deerlijk. The building is a former inn, Het Damberd, dating from 1790. It is protected as a monument and owned by the municipality.
After a thorough restoration under the direction of the Flemish heritage agency Monumenten en Landschappen, the museum opened its doors there in 1991. The René De Clercq Genootschap runs the museum and puts the poet’s work and life in the spotlight, including through texts and images. The collection is partly available online via Erfgoedinzicht.
The society publishes books and songbooks, keeps scores and poems, and maintains an extensive website about De Clercq.
