About the museum
The Railway Brick Museum in Leut (Maasmechelen) is the first Belgian museum for LEGO bricks and the fifth in Europe. It grew out of the passion of a LEGO builder for LEGO and trains; the museum opened in 2021. It is housed in an old, traditional bakery, and you can still see that: the coal-fired oven is still there and has been playfully worked into the layout.
The collection revolves around more than fifty years of LEGO trains. In the first section you see generations of trains in displays with towns from the same period. The second section consists of theme landscapes, including ones around Harry Potter, a winter landscape, a funfair and a Wild West scene, with trains you can start yourself using push buttons. The third section changes regularly and shows new exhibitions, built by the museum team or by guest collectors.
In the small cinema you walk through the history of LEGO, and elsewhere in the museum you discover what the manufacturer once made. There is a play corner to build your own creations, a mosaic wall and a Duplo play table for the youngest children. The museum is expanding to about 300 square metres, including a new section and a large LEGO city, Brick City.
