About the museum
The museum grew out of the collecting passion of Karel Verstringe. At the age of fifteen he received his first radio, a Barco Prince from around 1947, which he did not want to take apart. Later he bought an old radio from the 1930s at a flea market, and his collection grew. Since 1980 he has collected old radios and televisions, and from 1985 onwards he showed them at hobby exhibitions. In 1992 he moved to Eernegem.
The museum revolves around SBR, the Société Belge Radio-Electrique, Belgium's largest radio brand. The brand was founded in 1922 and made radios as well as transmitting equipment. The collection includes some 120 pre-war SBR sets. Besides the sets, the museum keeps an SBR archive; a study circle searches for, collects, translates and catalogues SBR documents for that archive. A free heritage pocket booklet about the origins of the brand and the museum is available in the museum, the town hall and the library.
After a major refurbishment of the 21 racks, the museum reopened to the general public in March 2026.
