About the museum

The Trésor de Liège is housed in the cloister of the cathedral. It holds the most precious pieces of the former cathedral of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Lambert, destroyed after the French Revolution, as well as works from collegiate churches and churches of the diocese. One room bears the name of Léon Dewez, former director of the diocesan museum.

The technical and financial management of the Treasury is provided by the association Trésor Saint-Lambert, created in September 1992 under the presidency of the Bishop of Liège and the dean of the cathedral chapter. It supports the conservation and restoration of works belonging to the cathedral and finances acquisitions.

The route extends over three levels and about ten themed rooms, connected by a lift, with about 200 works. It presents Mosan art and Liège goldsmiths' work, reliquaries such as that of Charles the Bold, an important collection of ancient textiles from the 7th to the 15th century, liturgical vestments, paintings by Bertholet Flémal and engravings from the former abbey of Val-Dieu. Audiovisual presentations evoke the vanished cathedral, the palace of the prince-bishops and the former collegiate churches of Liège.
