About the museum
Czech garnets are among the best-known precious stones from Bohemia. The exhibition tells their story from the early period, when they began to be used in jewellery, up to the early 20th century. Visitors learn where and how garnets were mined, how they were processed, and which cutting workshops made Prague, Brandýs, Turnov and Podsedice famous.
The exhibition also includes an old grinding wheel from the mid-18th century and an explanation of the energetic and healing properties traditionally ascribed to Czech garnets. The museum is located in Karlova Street, a few steps from Charles Bridge. Directly in the museum you can buy original historic jewellery with a certificate of origin and authenticity, as well as contemporary jewellery from the Granát z Turnova cooperative.
