About the museum
The Museum of the Prague Infant Jesus Vestments is housed in the monastery by the Church of Our Lady Victorious in Lesser Town. The church was built in 1611 to 1613 by German Lutherans as the Church of the Holy Trinity. After the Battle of White Mountain, Emperor Ferdinand II handed it over to the Discalced Carmelites, and on 8 September 1624 it was consecrated to Our Lady Victorious. The present appearance, including the façade, dates from 1636 to 1644, and the statue of the Prague Infant Jesus has been permanently kept in the church since 1641.
Emperor Joseph II dissolved the monastery in 1784, and the Knights of Malta took over the administration of the church; their order was abolished by the communist regime in 1950. The Carmelites returned to the church on 2 July 1993, after roughly two centuries. In 2023 to 2025 the façade received a reconstructed terrace with step-free access, designed by Josef Pleskot.
The museum presents above all the tradition of dressing the statue of the Prague Infant Jesus. You will find selected historic garments as well as interesting modern little outfits from various parts of the world, for example a dress from Empress Maria Theresa, a cape donated by the writer Paulo Coelho, a crown from Pope Benedict XVI from 2009, and a historic Rococo crown. A collection of nativity scenes from all continents is displayed on the ground floor.
