About the museum
The KGB Museum grew out of the private collection of the non-governmental organisation Černý déšť, which brings together people interested in the history of the Soviet secret services. Its members collected objects connected with the activities of the Cheka, the NKVD, the KGB and other units of the Soviet state security over many years. According to the museum, many of the exhibits were saved when the Soviet Union collapsed, at a time when state collections were losing oversight.
The exhibition shows, for example, the death mask of V. I. Lenin from January 1924, the weapon used in the murder of Leon Trotsky in Mexico in 1940, and personal belongings from the office of Lavrentiy Beria. Part of the exhibition is devoted to the history of the service weapons of members of the Soviet secret services, and to technology developed in the secret laboratories of the Warsaw Pact countries, such as concealed photographic equipment.
