About the museum
The Rymice open-air museum is one of the branches of the Museum of the Kroměříž Region and presents rural life in the Haná region. Its core is the local part of Hejnice, which arose at the end of the 18th century next to a former manorial gamekeeper’s lodge. Smallholders’ farmsteads nos. 62, 64 and 65 have survived here; they are among the oldest houses in the village, and in 1995 Hejnice was declared a village conservation area. In 1977 a wooden windmill from nearby Bořenovice was moved into the garden of one of the houses.
The second part of the museum is the Renaissance tvrz (fortified manor house), the oldest surviving building in Rymice, whose owners included Albrecht of Wallenstein. In 1841 a sugar-refining manufactory was set up there, which ceased operating in 1858. Since 2006 the tvrz has been open to the public and houses an exhibition on the life of rural people and the history of the village. Adjoining the tvrz is a Baroque farmyard, which opened after restoration on 14 May 2022 and also serves as a base for visitors, with parking, a ticket office and an exhibition on bread-making.
In 2024 the last stage of the farmyard restoration was completed: the reconstruction of building D, where storerooms and a workshop are to be established. Visitors walk through the site with a guide along one of two tour routes.
