About the museum

The Pyšely Museum was founded in 1937 by Arnošt Chvojka. The collection gradually grew to about a thousand exhibits, but in the 1950s of the 20th century the museum closed and its objects were divided among other museums in the region. People began to work towards its revival in the early 1990s, and the current permanent exhibition first opened to the public on 3 November 1996.

The exhibition is housed in municipal building No. 34 on T. G. Masaryk Square. It focuses mainly on local history and follows the original concept of the museum. It contains an archaeological collection, an ethnographic collection, objects and documents on the history of Pyšely and the surrounding area (archival records, photographs), and a section devoted to Emanuel Rádl, a university professor born in Pyšely. The ethnographic collection also grew thanks to gifts from local people.

The museum was managed for many years by Mrs Zdena Srnská, who is now handing it over to a younger successor. The town of Pyšely is having all pictorial and printed materials scanned by a specialist firm and will gradually process the physical exhibits as well.
