About the museum
The town council of Říčany founded the museum on 15 October 1908. Its first curator was the teacher Alois Mudruňka, after whom the museum was later named, and its collections were initially stored in several places around the town. After Mudruňka's death in 1937, the conservator Antonín Šimek took over its care.
The museum got a permanent home thanks to the teacher Růžena Klímová, who in 1940 bequeathed her villa Růženka in Rýdlova Street to the museum; after the Second World War the museum moved there. Over the following decades its status changed: in 1953 it came under the Krajské muzeum v Poděbradech (Regional Museum in Poděbrady), from 1965 under the Okresní muzeum Praha-východ (District Museum Prague-East), and from 1983 it was only a branch of that museum. In 1987 the permanent exhibition Říčany včera a dnes (Říčany Yesterday and Today) was created, and from 1992 the museum was independent again.
Since 2008 the museum has been led by Jakub Halaš, who puts emphasis on modern education for children, teachers and the public. Besides the main building with its changing exhibitions, it manages the garden, the Dvorek (courtyard) with a historic mini exhibition, the Geopark Říčany, the Říčanská hájovna (forester's lodge) and a storage depot in Jažlovice. Its collections include historical, archaeological and natural history objects from the Říčany region.
