Sklářské muzeum Kamenický Šenov

Museum of engraved and cut glass and local chandeliers in a Classicist house from 1769; the building is being reconstructed and the permanent exhibition is temporarily closed.

Opening hoursFree admission
Limited operations. Because of the gradual reconstruction, the permanent exhibition is not accessible. In 2026 the museum is open only from 1 July to 31 October: small exhibitions are on the ground floor and playful installations are in the cellar.

About the museum

The museum was founded in 1923 as a town museum, when local figures set up a museum association. Its members collected products and documents on the history of local glassmaking and organised exhibitions, first at the glassmaking school and from 1927 in the former town hall on the square. That building no longer stands. After the war the museum focused on glass, and in 1949 the establishment of a specialist glass museum was approved.

From 1966 to 1991 the museum was a branch of the Museum of Glass and Bijouterie in Jablonec nad Nisou; it then became independent, with the town of Kamenický Šenov as its founder. Since 1968 it has been housed in house no. 69, a Classicist townhouse with a mansard roof from the turn of the 60s and 70s of the 18th century. Between 1918 and 1948 the Viennese firm J. & L. Lobmeyr had workshops in the building.

The collection focuses on engraved and cut glass, chandeliers and other local glass production, including works from the international engraved glass symposia that have been held in the town since 1996. The permanent exhibition traces the development of engraved and cut glass from the 17th century to the present. The museum is undergoing gradual reconstruction, so the permanent exhibition is currently closed, and visitors see small exhibitions and playful installations instead.
