About the museum
Úsov is one of the oldest castles in northern Moravia and, according to the description, was built in the style of a French chateau; at the end of the 17th century it was partly rebuilt into a castle. The Liechtenstein family, the original owners of the castle, founded the Museum of Hunting and Forestry at Úsov in 1898; its collection is unique in Central Europe.
Today the castle is a branch of the Šumperk Regional Museum. The tour begins with an introduction to the history of the castle, with medieval weapons and a black kitchen. It continues with the collection of the hunting and forestry museum: African and European hunting trophies, among them a lion and elephant tusks, and exhibits on game animals and forestry on the second floor of the Martinelli Palace. Also on display are hunting weapons and confiscated poachers' rifles, and paintings by the painter Lubomír Bartoš. For children there is a small animal corner with peacocks and Cameroon goats.
The castle is open seasonally from April to October, and in the main season exhibitions and events for families are held here.
