Brandmuseet
Museum on the more than 300-year history of the Copenhagen fire brigade at the Vesterbro fire station, with a play area for children and free admission.
About the museum
Brandmuseet belongs to Hovedstadens Beredskab, the fire and rescue service of the capital region. The collection was previously housed at the now-closed Dæmningen fire station. On October 9, 2018, the museum was inaugurated at its new location at the Vesterbro fire station on Enghavevej.
The exhibition traces more than three centuries of fire protection in København: the development of equipment and technology, responses to disasters in times of war and peace, and the great fires that have struck the city over the course of its history. Uniforms, models and film clips complement the objects, and much may be touched. A dedicated app provides additional information for the tour. Because the museum is located in an active fire station, its emergency vehicles are generally not accessible to visitors.
For the youngest guests there is the "Børnenes brandstation", where children slip into the roles of firefighters and paramedics and learn something about fire safety and first aid along the way. The museum is run by a small team of staff and volunteers; in 2023, visitor numbers doubled compared with the previous year.
