STORM
Museum of humor and satire of the Frederiksbergmuseerne at Frederiksberg Runddel, with a permanent exhibition on the life and work of Storm P.
About the museum
STORM unites two older institutions under one roof. The Storm P. Museet goes back to a foundation established by Ellen Jacobsen, the widow of the cartoonist Robert Storm Petersen (1882–1949), before her death in 1961; the museum itself was founded in 1977. In 1993 the copywriters Ida and Bent From founded the Morskabs-museet and the Dansk Revyhistorisk Arkiv, which were devoted to Danish revue and entertainment history.
In 2021 both institutions were merged under the name STORM as a joint museum of humor and satire. It belongs to the Frederiksbergmuseerne, which also run Cisternerne, Bakkehuset, and Møstings, and is located at Frederiksberg Runddel. With theater walks and community singing, it continues the long tradition of the gardens on nearby Allégade, which were known as excursion and festival venues with music, performances, and hospitality.
On the second floor, the permanent exhibition is devoted to Storm P. as a newspaper cartoonist, painter, author, variety artist, and actor. From the collection of more than 30,000 drawings, watercolors, picture stories, the well-known philosophical flies, and his absurd inventions are on view, along with a reconstructed study. In addition, the museum tells how humorists and satirists have viewed Danish society from the Constitution of 1849 to today – from Liva Weel and Dirch Passer to today's comedians and cartoonists. On the first floor the exhibitions change; in the small garden courtyard, lectures, debates, and community singing take place.
