About the museum

The Haaning Collection goes back to the passion for collecting of Erik Haaning. At almost 20 he bought his first car, one he did not need for driving; over the following six decades it grew into one of the largest private vehicle collections in Denmark, with over 120 cars, around 40 motorcycles, 50 mopeds, and thousands of model cars.

In 2002 Haaning acquired a former bed factory in Sæby near Høng and opened the Vestsjællands Bilmuseum there in 2004. To move closer to the capital, his sons Michael and Nicholas began looking for a new location in 2015 and found it in 2020 in Bagsværd, north of København. After the conversion of the roughly 4,500-square-meter building, the collection opened in the summer of 2021 under the new name Haaning Collection.

The exhibition ranges from a faithful replica of the 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen to current sports cars and mixes everyday cars of various decades with rare collector's pieces such as the Lamborghini Countach or Chevrolet Corvette. Most of the vehicles are roadworthy, and the inventory changes regularly through purchases and sales. The museum also includes a small cinema with car films, racing simulators, a slot car track, a playground, Shelby's Café, and event rooms.
