Næstved Automobilmuseum
Private collection in old factory halls at Næstved's harbor: about 175 cars, 100 motorcycles, farm machinery, airplanes and a 1950s shopping street.
About the museum
The Næstved Automobilmuseum is the work of the collector Peder Spandet, who runs a car salvage business near Næstved. Many of the vehicles come from that business or were brought from Eastern Europe. In 2012 the collection opened in former factory halls at Næstved's harbor; the museum considers itself the largest private collection of its kind in Denmark and is run by Inge and Peder Spandet.
On about 3,400 square meters and three floors stand about 175 cars – from vintage cars to sedans to sports cars –, about 100 motorcycles and mopeds, tractors and farm machinery of the 1950s, as well as some airplanes, hang gliders and model aircraft. Only some of the vehicles are restored; most are shown as they were found.
A separate area reconstructs the main street of the small town of Præstø in the 1950s with about 50 small shops and workshops, including an optician, watchmaker, cinema, radio and TV shop and a driving school with a theory room. Added to this are enamel signs and many everyday objects. Among the curiosities is a red VW 1300 that was converted to be watertight, fitted with an outboard motor and launched in 1993. Brand clubs also meet in the vintage café.
