About the museum

The idea of an exhibition building for West Jutland arose from roughly five years of collaboration between the office of the architect Henning Larsen, who came from the area, and committed citizens from Videbæk and Ringkøbing. Financed with funds from Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality, local sponsors and the Skak Foundation, the pavilion on the pond of the Videbæk Lystanlæg was inaugurated on June 1, 2012, and was named Building of the Year the same year. The street on which it stands has borne the architect's name since 2015.

After a joint exhibition by Arne Haugen Sørensen and Dorthe Steenbuch Krabbe in autumn 2014, the painter offered the sponsoring foundation in 2015 a donation of 70 to 80 works – on the condition that a museum of its own be built. With the support of the municipality and Realdania, an extension in the style of the first building, which doubled the floor area, was completed in 2017; the Arne Haugen Sørensen Museum opened on September 9, 2017.

The collection comprises paintings, prints and sculptures from more than 70 years of the artist's work and continues to grow through donations and purchases. In addition, the pavilion hosts eight to ten changing exhibitions a year in three program lines – contemporary art, art association and local art – as well as choir and music events. The house is run mainly by volunteers.
