About the museum
The Centre Charles Péguy is a municipal institution in Orléans entirely devoted to the writer Charles Péguy (1873–1914), who was born in the city. It is housed in a fine Renaissance mansion, the Hôtel Euverte-Hatte, and belongs to the network of Orléans media libraries.
The centre brings together a museum and a specialised library. Its collections include over 90% of the author’s manuscripts, printers’ proofs, correspondence, more than 200 biographical documents and about 500 images. The library holds books, articles and research works on Péguy.
The museum, located in the centre’s courtyard, was completely redesigned in 2014, for the centenary of the writer’s death. Its contemporary display follows the stages of Péguy’s life like chapters of a book: his modest childhood and brilliant schooling, his political commitment in Paris during the Dreyfus affair, the shop of the Cahiers de la Quinzaine, and finally the Christian Péguy and the poet. The centre also organises exhibitions, lectures, concerts and workshops.
