About the museum
The original half-timbered house belonged to Jacques Boucher, treasurer general of the Duke of Orléans. Joan of Arc lodged there from April 29 to May 9, 1429, during the siege of the town by the English.
The house was destroyed in the bombings of 1940 and rebuilt in the 1960s. In 1974 the City of Orléans opened a municipal museum devoted to Joan of Arc here.
On the ground floor, a multimedia room offers interactive terminals, a map of the campaigns and battles, a timeline and the screening of a panoramic film of around fifteen minutes on the Hundred Years’ War, Joan’s life and her memory in the town. Upstairs is the Centre Jeanne d'Arc, a research and documentation centre holding around 37,000 books, journals, maps, films and slides. It can be consulted free of charge on weekdays by appointment.
