About the museum
The Écomusée des Monts d'Arrée is a cultural facility of the Finistère Department, run by the public body Domaines et Musées départementaux du Finistère. Set in the heart of a wild region that contains the highest peak in Brittany, it aims to be a living place of discovery and learning, where local residents take part in the programming. Ovens, mills, fields and gardens provide the setting for activities, special events and workshops.
The Maison Cornec in Saint-Rivoal was built in 1702 by Yvon Cornec and Anne Broustal, when the village was still a trève (dependent chapel parish) of the parish of Brasparts. This house of the apoteiz type, a small manor house belonging to a local notable, has been kept in its original state. The neighboring Maison Bothorel shows how housing evolved up to the 1950s, and the village also has the Écomusée's heritage orchards.
The village of Kerouat, in Commana, covers twelve hectares and illustrates the daily life of a 19th-century family of millers, the Fagots. It grew up around a first mill built in 1610. The site is currently being renovated with funding from the France Relance recovery plan and remains closed to the public except for exceptional openings.
