About the museum

In the 12th century, Robert I, Count of Dreux, had a priory founded at the foot of his castle. Until the Revolution, the monks of the Breuil-Benoît abbey collected the tithe on the wine of the Drouais winegrowers there. The site was sold as national property in 1791, and the chapel was demolished in 1852.

In 1987, the association Flora Gallica founded the Écomusée within these remains. The priory's troglodyte cellars, threatened by the construction of a road, were entrusted to it for restoration. A vineyard was replanted in 1989, and a grape harvest festival is held every year in October.

The route includes the medieval cellars, a stable, a bakehouse, the Grenier des artisans drouais (the granary of the craftspeople of the Drouais) and a medieval garden. Visitors see winegrowing tools, documents, objects from traditional trades and reconstructed 19th-century domestic rooms. The collections can also be consulted online.
