About the museum
The La Soyotte association, founded under the law of 1901, has been collecting traditional dances, music, songs and customs since 1955. In 1976 it bought an 18th-century farm at Le Faing, near Sainte-Marguerite, to present Vosges housing and old trades.
Volunteers renovated the house while respecting the tapestries, paintings and decorations of 1900. The long corridor of this Vosges mountain farmhouse leads to a kitchen with a pink sandstone floor, a large fireplace, a bread oven and a water stone.
The collections comprise about 8,000 objects: a grain mill and horse-powered mill, a stagecoach, a forge, an alcove bed, lace, working looms and a mechanical piano. The museum also offers animations for groups, for example on pearl embroidery, bobbin lace, spinning and weaving, butter-making or bread-making.
