About the museum
The Halle aux vivres is a 17th-century building inside the citadel of Brouage. It was used to store provisions for the garrison. Today it houses the exhibition “Brouage se la raconte !”, a history-and-play space designed for families.
The route invites visitors to touch, listen to and discover the history of the town, its military architecture and its links with the Atlantic world. In the middle of the room, a replica of the 1703 relief map helps explain the fortress. A children’s trail tells the story of the town and of salt.
The hall is also the starting point for visits to the citadel. Free game booklets are available at the reception desk, which also offers treasure hunts in the citadel and educational activities for school groups and leisure centres.
