About the museum

The Halle Saint-Pierre is a former Baltard-style market hall dating from 1868, at the foot of the Montmartre hill. It served as a market, then as a school, and finally as a garage for the Paris city cleaning services. The City of Paris owns the building, and its management has been entrusted to the Halle Saint-Pierre association, founded in 1985.

The site became a museum in 1995 with the exhibition “Art brut et compagnie”, which brought together five major French-speaking collections of art brut and art singulier. More than seventy exhibitions have been shown since.

The museum is devoted to art brut, art singulier, naïve art and the work of outsider artists, with thematic, group and solo exhibitions. It also includes a specialist bookshop, a café, a gallery and an auditorium.
