About the museum
The Musée de la sardine in Rivedoux-Plage was created by Serge Léger, an entrepreneur from the Île de Ré who sells his own brand of Ré sardines, La Maraisienne de Ré. It opened in August 2019.
The exhibition is the result of research carried out with the historian Dominique Lacorde. It presents around 2,000 objects, such as tins, books and postcards, as well as the original plan of the sardine cannery set up in Ars-en-Ré more than a century ago. The founder also wanted to pay tribute to the founder of the Courtin cannery in Concarneau.
The visit is short, about fifteen minutes, and ends in the museum shop, where the products of the founder’s brand are on sale.
