About the museum

The museum presents the archaeological heritage of western Aude and the Lauragais, from prehistory to the Middle Ages. It draws on around forty years of excavations and surveys carried out in Bram and the surrounding area.

In antiquity, Bram was home to a settlement called Eburomagus, first Gaulish in the 1st century BC and then Gallo-Roman until the 5th century AD. The town was a centre of trade and craftsmanship, known above all for its pottery workshops.

The permanent display, complemented by a space for temporary exhibitions, covers six themes, including daily life, exchange and funerary practices. It also widens the view to western Aude, with rural areas, Roman villae and the circular villages of the Middle Ages. The museum is run by the Town of Bram and holds the “Musée de France” label.
