About the museum

The Musée des vieux métiers (Museum of Old Trades) was founded in 1975, then renovated and reopened in 1995. It occupies the Tour Grosse, one of the towers of the medieval ramparts of the village of Saissac, listed as a historic monument since 1933.

On three levels, it brings together tools and instruments from earlier times. It highlights traditional trades and the daily life of the people of the Montagne Noire.

At the top of the tower, a terrace offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Pyrenees, with a viewing table to read the landscape. In summer, the site hosts activities.
