About the museum
The Maison de l'Oralité et du Patrimoine, often called MOP, occupies a rehabilitated 16th-century building in the heart of Capbreton. It preserves the town's memory and serves as a starting point for discovering the local heritage.
The Maison du Patrimoine traces the many faces of this port town from the Middle Ages to the present day, through a playful presentation: works from the heritage collection (paintings, sculptures, maps, objects), 3D glasses for walking over the Gouf de Capbreton, audio stations broadcasting stories collected from residents, and interactive games on a touch table and tablets. A temporary exhibition space presents new works every month.
The venue also houses the Pôle de l'oralité, dedicated to tales and storytellers: artists create their shows during residencies before the Festival du conte, the highlight of spring. Every two years, MOP organizes the Journées du Gouf, centered on the great underwater canyon and the ocean.
