About the museum
The museum grew out of the collections assembled by Georges Moreau, first shown in a venue called the Foyer villérois. His daughter and son-in-law, the architect Paul Huillard, installed these objects in Georges Moreau’s birthplace. After the Second World War the museum opened its doors. It was later enlarged, and the collections now occupy several rooms of the former house as well as new spaces.
The museum occupies an 18th-century townhouse. On the first floor, a reconstructed bourgeois kitchen from the Puisaye is displayed. You can also see a library with a 16th-century money-changer’s table and a dining room with a painting attributed to Hyacinthe Rigaud. An Art Nouveau sideboard designed by Paul Huillard, who gave the museum to the town, is also on display.
The collections include faience from the Puisaye and other production centres, including an important group of Revolutionary-era faience, as well as folk craft objects and medieval sculptures. In 2022 the Mobilier national deposited a chest of drawers, a bergère armchair and a rug at the museum.
