About the museum
The Musée de l'Alta Rocca is housed in the centre of the village of Levie (Livia), in southern Corsica. It enables visitors and school groups to discover the geological, historical and cultural features of this micro-region, between the high plateaus of the Cuscionu, the Bavedda needles and the Cagna mountains.
The permanent display traces daily life in southern Corsica through the great periods: the first settlements of the Mesolithic, the producers and builders of the Neolithic, then the Bronze Age with its fortified settlements (casteddi) and its statue-menhirs, such as Aravina I. It continues with the Iron Age, Antiquity and the early modern period, when the lords of the Rocca and Genoese rule dominated, and finally the modern era, marked by a world of shepherds, farmers and craftspeople.
The museum also presents remains from archaeological excavations, as well as exhibitions on the resources of the region and on contemporary art. It also offers lectures, concerts, theatre and literary events.
