About the museum
The Lu Brandali complex stands on a granite promontory a short distance from the sea, in the territory of Santa Teresa Gallura. The structures date from between the 14th and the 10th centuries BC and comprise a nuraghe, a village of huts and a giants' tomb. Excavation campaigns were carried out by Angela Antona between 1998 and 2014, and then by Letizia Lemmi in 2015 and 2016.
The nuraghe, built on several levels using the natural rock, is of mixed type, with corridor and tholos elements. It has a central keep surrounded by an outer wall (antemurale) with two towers; one of them can be visited, and the other was reused in later centuries as a kiln. Around it extends the village, with huts of curvilinear plan and rooms also used as craft workshops. To the west are the tafoni, granite cavities used as shelters and burials.
A short distance away is the giants' tomb, with a corridor more than six metres long and an area for ritual ceremonies, as shown by the numerous fragments of pottery recovered. Visits are organised by the cooperative CoolTour Gallura, which also offers the travelling exhibition “Lu Brandali: leggi, tocca, ascolta”.
