About the museum
The museum is housed in the former restaurant room of the Hôtel du Guet in Saint-Honoré-les-Bains. The hotel, completed in the early 1930s, became a military hospital in September 1939 and was later occupied by the German army. It then served as the headquarters of the Resistance in the Nièvre, as a center for fighting the Service du travail obligatoire (compulsory labor service), and as the setting for ceremonies of the Maquis Louis.
The museum was founded in 1991 by Norbert Jault and his wife Luce, née Perraudin, daughter of Georges Perraudin, a hotelier and Resistance fighter in the Sud-Morvan. As a teenager, Norbert Jault had begun collecting leaflets and magazines about the Second World War.
The collection includes thousands of archive documents: magazines, newspapers, books, leaflets, posters, photographs, maps, weapons, paintings, testimonies, stamps, ration tickets, parachutes and uniforms. The archives of the Maquis Louis were donated by several families of Resistance fighters.
