About the museum

The Maison des Galvachers in Anost is an eco-museum devoted to the galvachers, the oxherds and carters of the Morvan, known for their skill in driving draught oxen. They migrated seasonally, mainly between May and October, and this wandering life lasted into the 1930s.

The exhibition is richly documented and combines illustrations, testimonies and reconstructions of this way of life with an audiovisual section. It belongs to the network of the Écomusée du Morvan and is complemented by the Maison du Patrimoine Oral de Bourgogne, located in the same village.

The Autun tourist office offers a storytelling walk, “Au temps des Galvachers”, lasting about an hour and a half, which includes admission to the museum and to the Maison du Patrimoine Oral.
