About the museum
The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Gaillac is housed in the Château de Foucaud, built under Louis XIV, in a park laid out in the same period. It holds the “Musée de France” label. The town of Gaillac runs it together with two other museums, the abbey and the natural history museum, which share a common pass.
The collections comprise around 500 paintings, 700 drawings, 200 prints and 63 sculptures. They span Neoclassicism to postwar modernism, with a strong emphasis on Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Works on view include portraits, among them works linked to the Rothschild family and by Ingres, as well as scenes of rural life in the Tarn region in the 19th and 20th centuries.
