About the museum
The Musée des Émile vignerons is located on the Domaine Castan, in the heart of the village of Cazouls-lès-Béziers. It was founded in 2006 by the Castan family, who have been growing vines for seven generations. Its name honors the family's two grandfathers, Émile Castan and Émile Caussanel, whom the estate affectionately calls “les papés.”
The museum grew out of a family collection of old tools, which later expanded considerably. Across some 450 m², it shows the work of the winegrower through the seasons, from vine to winemaking, with tools from the early 20th century and several thousand objects dating from 1800 to 1990. It also reconstructs a classroom and a living room from the 1900s, furnished with family items.
The visit continues in the estate's century-old wine cellar, with its rows of large foudres, tanks, barrels, modern winemaking equipment and the bottling line, which can sometimes be seen in operation. The estate produces a wide range of wines (AOC Languedoc and Saint-Chinian) on about forty hectares that are currently being converted to organic farming, and offers paid tastings.
