About the museum

The museum is located in Sare, in the hamlet of the Maison Haranea, beside a stream. It presents a collection of everyday objects from the traditional Basque house, gathered by the Marichular family over more than twenty years: furniture, kitchen utensils, tools and old stones, including a millstone.

The visit, called the “Visite Découverte”, is led by a pastry chef in a reconstructed kitchen. It traces the history of the gâteau basque, reveals the secrets of its making and offers tastings of the stages of preparation, from raw dough to the finished cake.

The site also includes a shop, a bodega where you can eat, and a room where baking workshops let you make a gâteau basque yourself. According to the reference data, the museum opened in 2018.
