About the museum

The museum is housed in Annappes, in the Ferme Delporte, a red-brick square-courtyard farm dating from 1720. It farmed cereals in the Mélantois and first belonged to the de Brigode family, then to the de Montalembert family. Its name comes from the Delporte family, who occupied it for a long time. The building is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.

The museum opened in 1974 on the initiative of the Société historique de Villeneuve-d’Ascq et du Mélantois (SHVAM). The town bought the farm from Geoffroy de Montalembert, which made the project possible.

The route recreates the everyday life of the people of the Nord: the kitchen, the bedroom, the school, the laundry and the dairy. It also presents traditional trades such as blacksmith, saddler, clog-maker or carder. A room of around 60 seats hosts performances, and activity days feature demonstrations of traditional games, forging, carpentry or ironing.
