About the museum

The Landrecies municipal museum occupies several rooms in the town hall, a building erected in 1739. It brings together collections related to the history of the town and to figures who came from there. Before the rooms, visitors discover tiles from the Landrecies ceramics works and glass and objects from the glassworks founded in the early 19th century, two companies that no longer exist today.

The Dupleix room, on the upper floor, displays Indian furniture that belonged to Joseph François Dupleix, governor of the French Indies from 1742 to 1754 and a figure linked to Landrecies. Nearby, the Ernest Amas room houses the drawing collection and canvases of the painter Ernest Amas (1869–1959), born in Landrecies, trained in Lille and then in Paris, and author of numerous portraits of his fellow prisoners during the First World War.

On the ground floor, the Jules Gosselet and Paul Boussemart rooms show a large collection of fossils, rocks and minerals donated to the town by Paul Boussemart, and pay tribute to the geologist Jules Gosselet. The heritage interpretation centre, opened on October 7, 2006 in the former grain hall, recounts the history of the town.
