About the museum
The museum opened in March 2017 thanks to the commitment of Charles Couty, son of the painter Jean Couty. It stands on the banks of the Saône, a few steps from the artist's family home and studio, in the Saint-Rambert and Île Barbe district.
This private museum was created to showcase Jean Couty's work, but also to open up to modern and contemporary art through temporary exhibitions devoted to other major artists. It aims to help recognition of French figurative painting of the second half of the 20th century; the first exhibition, pairing Bernard Buffet and Jean Couty, launched this programme.
A thematic route presents Jean Couty's work: his city of Lyon, landscapes, Romanesque churches, cities of the world, genre scenes and the people he mixed with. A substantial collection allows the selection to be varied and thematic exhibitions around the painter to be organised.
