About the museum
The museum occupies a building in the Vieux Lyon whose oldest part dates from the 14th century. It became an inn in 1406; a courtyard was added in 1496 and a second wing in 1516, with three superimposed galleries of Tuscan arcades. It has been listed as a monument historique since 1937, narrowly escaped demolition in 1968 and underwent major restoration from 1979.
The museum moved in in 2004, thanks to a patron passionate about miniatures and cinema. It has been directed since 2021 by producer and director Julien Dumont. Across 2,000 m² of permanent exhibition, plus temporary rooms, the route presents more than a century of technical and aesthetic development in cinema, with original props, costumes, sets and animatronic creatures.
The museum also holds a large collection of art miniatures, including a gallery of more than 50 hyper-realistic scenes by the artist Dan Ohlmann. It also presents itself as an actor in the conservation and restoration of film props.
