About the museum

The museum is housed in the former grain granaries of the town of Bressuire. It is now run by the Agglomération du Bocage Bressuirais, which also operates the museum in Mauléon.

The circuit tells the history of the Bocage through recent archaeological finds and works of art: sculptures, paintings, gold and silverwork, most of them produced in the Bressuirais.

A major ceramics collection represents the local production known as Saint-Porchaire. It ranges from medieval basins and jugs to the faience of Parthenay and the 19th-century Minton pieces, inspired by the famous 16th-century productions.

Bressuire is also the birthplace of Max Ingrand (1908–1969), one of France’s great master glassmakers and stained-glass artists of the 20th century. The exhibition held for the fiftieth anniversary of his death in 2019 entirely renewed the space devoted to him. New acquisitions, such as a table and glass plaques, are displayed there.
