About the museum

The museum occupies the Lion d’Or inn in Juniville, which the association presents as the only building frequented by Paul Verlaine that is still intact and open to the public. It stands opposite the house the poet rented in Juniville and near the farm his mother gave him to help him rebuild his life.

Verlaine, born in Metz in 1844, spent two years in Juniville, a period of wandering marked by the failure of the farm and the death of Lucien Létinois, a former pupil whom he regarded as his son. The museum recalls this stay and, more broadly, the poet’s life and work.

The furniture has remained in place in the inn. The route covers around 1,500 m² and is built around an iconographic collection, a guided commentary and Verlaine’s complete works (prose, poetry and correspondence), available to read. Visitors can also discover an old garden of around 1,000 m², temporary exhibitions and a bistro.
