About the museum

In 1912, the Italian Roberto Clemens Galletti di Cadilhac built a powerful wireless telegraphy station at Champagneux, in Savoie, on the banks of the Rhône. It enabled communication with the Tuckerton station in the United States. The First World War put an end to his experiments, as the state requisitioned the station.

The Radio-Musée Galletti, located in Saint-Maurice-de-Rotherens, presents the history of this station and of radio communications. A collection of old radios, telephones, posters and documents illustrates a century of communications. The museum runs thanks to volunteers; the commune supports it and provides the premises.

It holds lectures and events throughout the year, notably for the Fête de la science and the Journées du patrimoine, with radio collectors and amateur radio operators. It is a member of the network of museums and thematic houses of Savoie and has held the “Tourisme et Handicap” label since January 2016.
